Data We Collect
Townbound collects the following information to help you connect with friends:
- Name and email — for account creation and authentication.
- Phone number — hashed on your device using HMAC and never stored in plain text. Used only to match you with friends who are already on Townbound.
- Location — your home city and current city, to show friends when you're in town or traveling.
- Trips — your planned travel dates and destinations, so friends can see when your paths cross.
- Friends — your friend connections, to share travel overlaps and status updates.
- Favorite places — restaurants, bars, and other spots you save in a city, visible to your friends and to friends of friends who saved places in the same city.
- Social links — Instagram and other profile links you choose to add, visible to anyone who views your profile.
- Push notifications — a device token used to deliver notifications you've enabled. You control which categories of notifications you receive in Settings.
How We Use Your Data
Your data is used solely to show friends your location and trips, and to notify you when friends are nearby or traveling soon. We do not sell your data to third parties.
Phone Number Security
Your phone number is hashed on your device before it ever reaches our servers. We never store plain-text phone numbers. The hashed value is used only to match you with contacts who are already Townbound users.
Donation
100% of proceeds from the App Store and Google Play are donated to Nosotros por los Niños con Cancer A.C., supporting children with cancer in Guadalajara, Mexico.
